We are itching with excitement to announce that Sam Gayton has won the 2016 West Sussex Children’s Story Book Award for his book Hercufleas.
Hercufleas tells the story of a heroic flea, who is on a mission to save a town from a monstrous Yuk. Though he is no bigger than a raisin, Hercufleas proves that even the smallest creatures can have the biggest effect…
Other books shortlisted for the award included Anne Fine’s The Leopards Tale, Phil Earle’s Demolition Dad and David Solomons’ My Brother is a Superhero.
The award was voted for by a group of year 5 pupils and run by West Sussex Schools Library Service in partnership with West Sussex Libraries. Gayton had visited participating schools in May to talk about Hercufleas and what it’s like to be a writer.
