We are thrilled to announce the continued awards success of Safiyyah’s War by Hiba Noor Khan.
On the 20th June, it was announced that Safiyyah’s War has won the Indie Book Award 2024 in its Children’s Fiction category. Ran as part of Independent Bookshop Week, the award is chosen solely by independent booksellers themselves.
At the end of May, Hiba also won the Jhalak Children’s & YA Prize. Now in its fourth year, the Jhalak Children’s & YA Prize celebrates picture books, chapter books for children, graphic novels, poetry and non-fiction written by writers of colour in the UK and Ireland. Chosen unanimously by Danielle Jawando, J. P. Rose and Rashmi Sirdeshpande, the judges called Safiyyah’s War ‘heart-wrenching and inspiring, and with such relevance to the world around us’.
Hiba continues with her awards success, where is she is currently shortlisted for The Week Junior Book Award 2024 and the 2024 Branford Boase Award, and was also shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal for Writing, as well as various regional awards.
