Andersen Press is on the Move

Andersen Press is moving premises, later this month, to London’s Bloomsbury area. The building on Coptic Street is the latest development by the publisher to secure its independent future, with its entire staff relocating from Vauxhall Bridge Road.

Andersen Press will move on to three floors of the townhouse, with plans to take over the remaining two floors when the existing tenants’ leases expire in the next couple of years.  Staff will have offices on the basement level and second floor whilst the ground floor will comprise an archive of Andersen Press’s near-fifty years of publishing as well as a number of comfortable meeting spaces for staff and visitors.

Mark Hendle, Andersen Press Managing Director, says: “We have been grateful to Penguin Random House for their support and generosity as landlords over the last 30 years. But as we approach a milestone anniversary, this is an opportunity for Andersen Press to invest directly in its independence, and its continuation as a thriving innovative publishing house. The office at Coptic Street allows us to have a permanent home where our staff and archive can come together in a friendly, collaborative space. It is ideal for hybrid working arrangements and creative thinking, and we are all very excited about the move. We look forward to inviting our authors, illustrators and many partners to come and see the space… once we’re unpacked!”

Andersen Press was founded by Klaus Flugge, who is still the Chairman of the company. It is the publisher of big brands such as Elmer and The Little Princess, and award-winning and best-selling authors and illustrators such as David McKee, Chris Riddell, Melvin Burgess, Tony Ross, Julian Clary and Jeanne Willis. More recent successes have seen Hiba Noor Khan’s Safiyyah’s War win the Jhalak Prize, the Week Junior Book Award and Indie Book Award; Phil Earle’s When the Sky Falls win the British Book Award and Books Are My Bag Readers Award; and Harry Woodgate’s Grandad’s Camper win the British Book Award and the Waterstone’s Prize for picture books.

Andersen Press’ new address will be 6 Coptic Street, London WC1A 1NH from 11th November 2024.
